Ash Wednesday to Pentecost
The Betrayal
- Judas, demoralised by love,
The advocate of earthly powers,
Missed his Messiah's Testament
Left in His final earthly hours. - Not a deliberate, murderous act
Nor further substance for his needs,
An unintended consequence
Of misplaced hope in earthly deeds. - Shut out from brotherhood and peace
He took his fee back to the priests;
Rejected, even by these men,
He gave himself up to the beasts. - Yet great as his betrayal was
For one who knew the Son of Man,
Ours is the greater for we know
The end of what that deed began.
