Ash Wednesday to Pentecost
The Paschal Candle
- The paschal candle searches out
The corners of the empty cave,
Its beams eliminate all doubt
Of victory in the empty grave. - For fifty days the fire extends
In consecration of the Host,
More fiercely after He ascends'
Consuming us at Pentecost. - And it still shines in placid days,
Made fainter in the Summer sun,
But we should see its hopeful rays
As on this night it was begun. - Praise to the Father, source of light,
And to the Paschal Lamb all praise;
And to the Spirit on this night
Who truly has begun to blaze.
