If I Could Wish
If I could wish upon a star
It would not be for chocolate, or a racing car,
Or an electric guitar,
But for a peep
At Jesus fast asleep.
If I could travel near and far
It would not be to Xanadu or Shangri-la,
Or the Istanbul Bazaar,
But to stay
By the Christ child in the hay.
If I could hear the sweetest sound
It would not be Beim Schlafengehen, or the nightingale
Or A Winter's Tale,
But the baby's cry
Stilled by Mary's lullaby.
