The Spark
A heavenly spark set free
Encompassing the tree
Of Israel's liberty
And ours at Calvary.
The Spirit lights and warms
The infant in her arms,
And gently becalms
Her bosom's raging storms.
A bonfire in the night
Of cruelty and spite
Gives humble shepherds fright
Lit with angelic light.
That spark, the Spirit's flame
Wrought Incarnation's frame,
And gave their lips his name
Who wondered why he came.
We heirs of Pentecost
Enjoy what Adam lost
Born in the knifing frost
Thawed by the Holy Ghost.
