It is for Love
A child is lying in the straw,
A star is shining bright above.
We ask ourselves what this is for:
It is for love.
Bright angels tell of wondrous news,
Rough shepherds kneel before the boy.
We wonder how we can refuse:
It is for joy.
Wise men with gifts from distant lands
Of myrrh and gold and frankincense.
We try our best to understand:
This is for peace.
As Christmas trees and mistletoe
Obscure the meaning of his stall,
We want to let the whole world know:
This is for all.
