Weak but Smiling
In an age of power and sorrow
Comes a baby, weak but smiling;
For today and for tomorrow
Firm of purpose, yet beguiling.
To a stable for a shelter
Come rude shepherds, dull yet praising;
Trusting in the angels message,
So familiar yet amazing:
You will find a child
Good news for the world
Especially the poor;
That is what the manger’s for.
In a church too large for solace
Huddle round a crib the faithful praying;
Peace on earth and humble birth,
Living what their books are saying:
You will find a child,
As weak yet bright as he
That is Christ the Lord
In his poverty.
