When Jesus Came
(A Carol in 3/4 time)
Over the hills came the wind with a sweep,
Ruffling the hair of the boy in his sleep,
Counting a fortune of heavenly sheep
When Jesus came.
Standing before him an angel in white
Woke him from sleep with a terrible fright:
Unearthly voice and clothes unearthly bright:
When Jesus came.
"Don't be afraid, I bring news of a birth,
Good news for all of goodwill upon earth
But, most of all, pilgrims who suffered a dearth
Before He came.”
Smiling, she beckoned them to take a peep
At their saviour lying before them asleep,
King of creation, including the sheep
When Jesus came.
