Lord, who might have come in power
1. O Lord, who might have come in power,
To sweep aside all wickedness,
Came at an inauspicious hour
To live in danger and distress.
2. Who might have been a temple priest
Or cloistered with the sagest scribes,
Sucked in a cave to serve the beast
And heard the soldiers' diatribes.
3. O how you cried for milk and warmth,
O how you, helpless, lay awake,
When you could have come down in strength,
And caused all earthly powers to shake.
4. None but Our Lord could empty out
All power and yet gain everything,
For in his weakness He is great,
Denying all, has everything.
