Stella Maria
1. And did that star shine over Calvary
Which lit the Magi where the infant lay,
A distant comfort in her reverie
As Mary left the Cross that fateful day?
2. And did it guide the angels in their flight
As He lay quiet in the virgin tomb
As it had shone upon the exile night
He left the comfort of the Virgin's womb?
3. And did it fitly fade before His face,
Our risen Saviour on that Easter morn'
Turning her sorrow with His radiant Grace
To wild Magnificat that he was born?
4. It shines now on benighted Bethlehem
And on the vastness of our troubled sea;
And, as He is our God but still a man,
Was she the star at the Nativity?
