As Eve Looked Back
As Eve looked back towards the 'tree of sin'
God thought she was more beautiful than ever
She had been innocent of care and weather
Although ugly skins spoiled her radiant skin:
"Love out of loss is the heavenly bland;
Perfect naiveté was a mistake:
Now they will love me for each other's sake
Instead of simply heeding my command.
A father cannot help wanting to do
The right thing, sheltering his girl from harm
But Eden only offered shallow charm,
Without will it was too good to be true.
Just one more look at your new, knowing face
Until the time of incarnated grace."
