The Snow Man and the Baby
A snow man anchored in the snow
From which it came to be
Dies unremarked, silent and slow,
A transient history.
A baby bathed in radiant light
Of which it is the source
Dies violently in day made night
As love encounters force.
Yet we will always live in light
Building in love although
Our efforts will be cold and slight
Because we build in snow.
What we construct time will destroy
As transient works of earth
Rehearsing everlasting joy
Made solid by that birth.
