Kneel We Now
Shepherds rushing from their flocks
Into town with a wondrous shout
Scrambling over the treacherous rocks,
Skyglow bright and soft as silk
Fading into velvet black
Patterned with stars blue/white as milk.
Sages poring over books
Start their journey hard and long,
Stung by Herod's dirty looks,
Leave their gifts in speechless joy,
Hardly knowing what they saw
In the infant, peasant boy.
Peeling bells and joyful choirs
Celebrate the life begun,
Put aside earthly desires
For a moment. Christ is here,
Tangible in love and straw,
Kneel we now and him adore.
