The Church's Year
- Our festival is over,
Our banners furled and stowed;
Inspired by celebration
We take the open road:
It may be long and weary
With trouble on the way
But we will travel bravely
To our appointed day. - Our guide book is The Bible,
Our symbol is the Cross,
Our food the Holy Eucharist,
The greatest gain from loss:
Cheered on by Saints and Martyrs
Whose lives and deaths affirm,
The Church our tower and refuge
To counsel and confirm. - In prayer and contemplation,
In comradeship and love,
Shaped by the Church's teaching,
Formed by God's will above:
We mark the sacred calendar
With Easter at its core,
Crowned by the Resurrection,
The key to Heaven's door. - To God the grand creator
Who set us on this course,
And to His Son who taught us
Its meaning and its force:
And to the Holy Spirit
Who guides us when we stray,
Be honour, praise and glory
Along our pilgrim way.
