General (Vol. 1)
Jesu of the Desert
- Jesu of the desert
Tempted and alone,
Terrorised by Satan:
Make bread from this stone:
Goaded by my peers,
Or alone in misery,
Pity my temptations,
Small though they may be.
- Jesu of the garden
Left without a friend,
Forced to travel lonely
To the bitter end:
Though my friends may alter
And sometimes be untrue
May I never falter
In constancy to You.
- Jesu of the hilltop
Crowned and crucified,
Blood and water flowing
From Your pierced side:
May my resolution
Grow more strong with prayer
Yet never turn to comfort,
Knowing You are there.
- Jesu of the journey
To Emaus With Your friends,
Breaking bread in witness
That Your love never ends:
Make our homes and bodies
Fit for Your repose,
Yours to do your bidding,
Offer and dispose.
- Jesu of the mountain
Rising to Heaven above,
Promising the Spirit
Born of boundless love:
May we follow duly
To Your journey's end,
As Your humblest servants
And Your dearest friends.
