One

  1. Bread of our God descended to live amidst our grief,
    Restorer of His promise in prayer and belief;
    Wine of His Son afflicted flows yet within our veins,
    Thus Jesus now ascended is with us as He reigns.
  2. The wonder of our banquet of unsurpassed delight
    Is tempered with the knowledge of the perils of the fight;
    Though prayer and praise we offer, our weakness yet endures
    Without the spirit's succour which strengthens and ensures.
  3. Such Eucharistic splendour no potentate has seen
    Nor such mysterious valour displayed before a queen;
    Thy table decked with honour where saints feast without end
    Within the Holy Spirit from whom all Grace descends.
