Eucharistic Meditations
Thirty
- In desert and forest and unending plain
In sunrise and cool skies or thundering rain:
Wherever I am and whene'er I am lost,
I find my refuge in the wine and the Host. - In torment and danger where tyrants prevail,
In unbridled anger when ambitions fail:
Whatever the cause and whatever the loss
I find my refuge in the Fruits of the Cross. - In kindness and softness in trying to relate,
In blindness and harshness, revulsion and hate:
However I feel when I try to do good,
My strength is to kneel for my heavenly food. - In blaring and blasting, the media's coarse howl
Sends me to Your caring with ewer and towel:
The thought that we humans are partly divine
Is mirrored through God in the bread and the wine.
