Eucharistic Meditations
Seventeen
- There is no greater wonder in the world
Than the eternal Eucharist,
No hour it is not offered in Your name
By broken nail or amethyst:
No core more vital it must be maintained;
No promise more sustaining and sustained. - Yet we imprison You in churchly rites
Seeing homes as different,
We alternating striving and tristesse,
You in the Sacrament:
Yet You re-lived in an Emmaus home
What You had just completed with the tomb. - Surely the living presence of the Bread
And the vitality of Wine
Are sustenance enough for pilgrim waifs
Intent on the Divine:
Bearing Your broken body to our door,
May we receive what You daily restore.
