Thirty Seven
(For All Saints)
- With swelling hearts
We thank You for your saints,
Whose faith imparts
Rebuke to our constraints:
How can our love be worthy, full and true
If we subject it to selfish review? - Though slow and weak
We must pursue their course
And learn to speak
With Grace and gentle force:
Behind the Saints who walk behind Your train
We are yet links in that triumphant chain. - Far from the call
To grand, heroic deeds
We still may fall
Through spurning modest needs:
Your foes grind golden wheels for wealth and fame
But we must mount resistance in Your name.
