Eucharistic Meditations
Thirty Nine
- The light that shines from deepest dark,
The light that fills the hemisphere,
Is nothing set beside the light
Which fills our souls when You are near:
That inward light which shines to greet
Your Body's triumph in defeat. - The bread which makes our bodies thrive,
The bread of home, of club and street,
Is nothing to the Eucharist
Which makes our inner lives complete:
That spiritual presence which inspires
The deepest Heavenly desires. - The wine which cheers and calms our stress,
The wine which binds our social ties,
Is nothing to the wine outpoured
In witness of Your enterprise:
And the pure fruits of sacrifice
Are sheltered in this calm device.
